How to BackUp Outlook email folders and messages

Jim Richards

I am new to Outlook as I have been using Outlook Express instead. How do I
backup the folders and messages in Outlook? Thanks in advance for any help.
Jim.

Thanks Scott. I am using Outlook 2000 SR-1 (9.0.0.3821). I don't understand
about the "mode I am configured in". I am an individual and I use Outlook as
my email manager for home use only (does that help?). I did a search on my
C: harddrive for *.PST but got no results. Where would the folder normally
be for these email folders and messages? TIA, Jim.

Hi Jim,

You didn't mention which version of Outlook you are currently running, or
which mode you are configured in. You will need to find the exact name and
location of your .PST file, then simply copy that file with Outlook
closed. When Outlook is open, it locks the file and you will not be able to
copy it.

I want to thank you Scott for the help you gave me. I followed (after I
posted my first response) the link that you furnished me and was able to not
only print good information on backing up Outlooks Personal Folder File but
I downloaded the Utility from Microsoft, backed up my folders and email
messages, and set it to remind me again every 5 days. What a great feeling
to know that I have these backed up now. I back them up to a ZIP 750MB
(external USB drive). Have a nice day. Jim.
