How to display attachment types?

Is there a way to have Outlook display the type of attachment (a little "W"
icon for Word files, an "Ex" icon for Excel files, etc.) in the list of
emails, instead of simply a paperclip?

When searching for a specific email, it will be helpful to see what type of
file is attached without having to highlight the message for it to appear in
the reading pane to see.
