how to get notepad to open text documents office 97

have notepad insalled ...but when i click on it ....it causes my computer to
shut off.......and when i try to open a email using notepad ..it does
nothing......iam running windows xp proffessional......

Hi,

Wrong newsgroup, this one is about Microsoft Access, an application
about database that ships with Office.

You may have something else than the original Notepad.exe under that
name. It is relatively easy to change the name of a file. Delete the actual
one (or better, rename it) and try to re-install the original notepad, maybe
(copy it from a friend's computer, expand it from the original CD, or
whatever seems appropriate)?
