In the Footnote dialog box, you can choose a "Custom mark"; this allows
you to insert any character (available in the chosen font).

Thank you for your quick reply. Your are right. I tried this one. But all
gone in vain. I want decimal numeric continuous footnote. e.g.,

This consideration reflects the importance1 of the relationship
between the speaker’s2 expressions and employment. A
governmental3 entity has broader discretion to restrict speech
when it acts in its role as employer, but the4 restrictions it
imposes must be directed at speech<***> that has some potential to affect the
entity’s operations.5

 = superscript footnote

In the above text, if i would like to insert footnote by increment in
decimals, how do i do that? I understand that i can insert manually but i
would like to do that automatically.
Since some of the law books follow this style, Im looking forward a good
solution from you. A timley help is highly appreciable.

Please note that most of the authors include decimal numerical footnotes
and i find trouble to work on that.

With thanks and regards
Jaganathan

Sorry, I misunderstood your initial message. The default in Word is to
use superscript numbers for footnotes. In what way doesn't this work for
you? If the problem is that numbers aren't formatted as superscript,
verify that the Footnote Reference character style includes superscript
formatting (see
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/styles/ModifyAStyle.html).
