Doug

Good morning,

I am trying to do something with this 'wonderful' tool,
and need some help. I will describe the problem in 2
ways, let me know if you have any insights, or if there is
anyone else to ask.

thanks
Doug

Sciforma PS8 code language:
Does MS-Project do what ps8 called hammock tasks?

Longer description:
I want to build a schedule where there are certain tasks
which have a fixed start, their end date is FF linked to a
milestone, and the tool calculates the duration and fills
it in. All of the incantations I have tried with Project
will not 'stretch' the task out to fill the time available
to it. The duration is always fixed and I am just moving
the task around.

Are you choosing "paste link" with a data type of "text data" when you try
to insert the date into the stsart date column? And are you pasting into
the start date in the Gantt chart entry table or into some other date field?

Is there a dependency link going into or coming out of the task you're
trying to paste into?

Doug,

You cannot "HAMMOCK" a summary task
That gives the error message you describe

Doug,

it's true, you cannot hammock a task BUT you can emulate
one.
Link a milestone Start-to-start to the task you want to
adjust to and link another milestone Finish-to-finish to
the same task. Then move these two milestones under a new
summary (which sould contain only these two milestones)
and this summary will then stretch (or shrink).

As you can assign a resource to a summary your emulated
hammock would contribute to the overall work and cost.

Regards,

Juergen
