How to not automatically open email...

I just started using Outlook 2003. One thing I can't figure out how to do
is to set it up so it doesn't automatically open an email when going to my
Inbox (or any other folder).

With OExpress6, I can open my Inbox without the program selecting an email
automatically. The preview pane at the bottom would remain blank until I
select a message/email. I can't seem to make Outlook 2003 behave this way.
It always selects an email.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
