How to open Excel 2007 file with xlsx extension in Mac Office 2004

H

I have been unable to locate a converter from Microsoft, Mac, or
anyone, that will allow me to open an Excel file sent me with the
extension xlsx. Can someone point me in the right direction?

There are others, I'm sure, but this is the one I'd invest in or upgrade to:

http://www.dataviz.com/products/maclinkplus/mlp_xlators.html

There are also any number of resources available to you free - all you need
is a PC user with 2007 who will make the conversion file for you by simply
saving a copy as .xls _or_ a user of a different Windows version of Excel
who has the Windows converters _or_ a Mac user running PC Office in VPC or
Parallels/BootCamp who will do so.

I understand that new conversion filters for Mac are expected to be released
around the end of the month, but whether .xlsx converters will be included I
have no idea.

I can do that for you if you wish.
Send me your file to my gmail address and I will do that. If you also
post here note that you have already send me your file, that will be
great, because this will avoid your expectation of converted file
which might not reach me (can be killed somewhere on the way). Thus we
both will know that you have send it.
Cheers,
LC

Are there any new developments on this topic since July of last year? I have a file to convert and may get a couple more.

We are hoping to release converters for the new file format before the end
of June. The exact date is still TBD.

Thanks,

Pat

Can he use the Beta Converters

Also I want to use Converters with my 2004 but I have already installed
2008 and the converter install doesn't make a distinction between 2008
or 2004 and will destroy the converter already in 2008 Also I have a
copy on my Desktop which uses OSX.3.9 (don't ask I tried to install
OSX.4 so many times I've worn myself out trying). So the installer
itself doesn't work on X.3.9.

I'd have thought that

"We are hoping to release converters for the new file
format before the end of June"

from MacBU's Pat McMillan, in the message that *you* replied to, might
have answered that...

That was in reference Word.

But it appears from the post I was answering that they haven't worked

Keep watching mactopia for an announcement of the release for the converter.
The only alternatives now are Open Office, or get the originator to save the
document in xls format.

The NeoOffice of OpenOffice,

http://neooffice.com

is free, and does a good job in my experience with read/write for basic
..xlsx workbooks.

Another alternative reader is Apple's Pages.

This is ridiculous in the extreme. Where is the converter so we can read the Excel files?

If we have to download and install NeoOffice on every machine, why do we need MS Office? Is this meant to chase mac users away?

Never ascribe to malice that which can be adequately described by ...

I've got no idea why the converter is taking so long, but I'm about as
sure as anything that chasing Mac users away is NOT the reason.

In any case, most of us here have no influence on the schedule.

We have announced previously that we will be shipping the converters for the
new xml file formats in the first half of the year, and we're still planning
to do so, so it shouldn't be too much longer.

Thanks,

Pat

So sick of these products, they really suck, completely feature poor...every other day I'm finding yet something else that it CAN'T do...thanks for limiting my productivity on your short sighted development...

....one year to develop a way to transfer the files and still nothing...pathetic...mactopia sucks...it should be as feature rich as it's Office counterpart...

2 thumbs down on the Microsoft Office for Mac...
