How to prevent auto launch of Word with Outlook

I use Word to edit/view emails in Outlook. However, of late Word has stared
to launch itself automatically (with no document) in a separate window
whenever I launch Outllook for the first time.

Is there a config that would fix this problem? I have Outlook/Word v2002
SP3.
