It is rarely necessary to re-install Word to fix problems, however you can
repair the installation from the help menu (if Word will start) or from add
& remove programs if it won't. Chances are that the problems are nothing to
do with the basic installation and will remain - see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm

Thanks Graham
I had a corrupted Normal.dot file. I have changed that to Normal.old. I am
not sure if I need Normal.dot file in the future but how to get a good one?
Kalevi
When normal.dot is not present, Word builds a new factory fresh default one.
You can use the organizer to copy content from old to new.
