How to schedule task at weekends?

Athena

Hello,

We work on Saturdays & Sundays as well. How can I set up a task that
the task occurs on these days?

I am using Project 2000.

Thank you.

Hi,

Set up a base Calendar (Tools, Change Working Time, New) that provides for 7
WD/week
Double-click on the task to show Task information
In Advanced, Calendar, select the 7d calendar.
That's it.

Hello Jan,

Thank you for the help. But I could not manage it. I have tasks that
split over many days (1 day tasks) separated by 2 or 3 day intervals. Some
of them on weekends. After I split the task the second part cannot start
from a weekend day! I could not create a 7 work day. Does "Change Working
Time>New) automatically create a 7d week? Or do I need to set the total
working hours to 56 hours? I did it but it still did not work.

4/12 4/14 4/16 4/18

3 Task3 1 1 1 ..................

Sincerely,

Athena

Hi,

Just noticed your posting.

First: Are all your tasks able to be completed over a weekend? ie is all
work capable of being scheduled on a seven day calendar? If all, ot the
majority, of tasks can be carried out anytime during the week, then set the
project calendar to the 7 day calendar, this will then allow the work to be
scheduled across the weekend. However, you must also ensure that under
Tools/Options/Calendar, the hours per day, days per week, and days per month
reflect the seven day working week. The issue will be that when project
calculates start and finsh dates based on the durations you set against each
task and using the settings uner the options, then the finish dates will not
follow exactly as expected.

Second: Under the Tools/Change working time, the calendar has a drop down
pane which allows you to create a new calendar, or modify the existing
calendars. My preference is to leave the set calendars alone and create new
ones, based either on the 7 day calendar or the standard calendar.

Third: Make sure that any resources assigned to the task have the correct
calendar. If they can work a seven day week then allocate them a seven day
week calendar. Remember though that if you allocate specific people to a
task, they generally cannot work more than five or six days per week. Best
to use generic names such as programmer, fitter, electrician etc. This
allows the task to be carried out over a weekend you will then need to
manually allocate people to the task to ensure their allocation does not
artificially distort the schedule.

Hope this helps a little more
