How to undo copy and save?

I have mindlessly copied an older cd copy of a document over a late
hard-disk copy. I did not have system restore enabled. Is there an
way I can get the text back? Please help.

System restore would not have corrected this. It doesn't affect data files.
File recovery software *may* recover the original from the hard drive. If
not it has gone.

Not unless you have regular backups made in the meantime. (My understanding
of system restore is that it would not make any difference on this. It is
for changes to applications and the OS.)
