How to update %of complete manually?

Hi All,

I have a query in Microsoft project professional 2003. How can I
update %of complete manually.

Example Scenario:

Start date: 01-Dec-08
End date : 02-Dec-08
Planned work : 16 hrs ( one resource ; 2 days)

When I enter actual effort by clicking View--„³ Resource Usage(Actual)

01- Dec-08 = 8 hrs
02-Dec-08 = 8 hrs

In this Scenario my % of complete shows that 100% completed. Whereas I
haven¡¦t complete the work

In the same time, if I go and change the Remaining work column as to
¡§2hrs¡¨, my actual work is getting changed. But this is not my expected
result. It should be like my actual hrs is 16 hrs and % complete less
than 100%(manual entry) . But the ¡§%of complete¡¨ and ¡§actualwork¡¨
columns are interlinked.

Even I have tried the below settings too¡K

Tools -„³ option-„³ calculation-„³Calculation mode (Manual)

Is there a way to update % of complete column alone?

Please apply the same scenario in MPP and help me out.

Thanks in advance.

Mohamed, try this.
On the Gantt chart, select Window/Split.. this will make a new pane on the
bottom portion of the Gantt chart. In the new bottom pane, right click and
select "Work"

Your choices will be to enter actual work and remaining work, along with
some others. Here you would enter 16 hours as actual work, remaining work is
2 hours (total is 18). What you will see is %Complete beccomes 89% (16/18).

Thank you for making the realization that your %Complete seems to be "odd."
This is because the default method for determining %Complete in Project is
based on duration, not work.

If you wish to decouple %Complete (duration based) and %Work Complete, go to
Tools/Options/Calcuations (tab). Deselect the checkbox that says "Updating
task status updates resource status"

Hi mustafa,

I assume you are applying the tracking data in Project
directly --not through PWA. If you are using PWA, please re-post
your question to the Project Server newsgroup.

If you add actual work that is greater than or equal to the original
planned work, Project will mark the task as 100% work complete. If
remaining work is zero, the % complete (duration) is also 100%
complete.

If your resources have worked 16 hours of work but have not
completed the task, add the estimated amount of work remaining into
remaining work. That should automatically change the percent work
complete to less than 100%. Do not manually change % work complete
again as that will cause a recalculation.

In the Resource Usage View -- you are seeing % Work Complete -- not
% complete.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
