I've recently got a new computer, which runs with XP. My old computer
had Office 2000. My new computer won't let me view the documents, is
there a way around this?
If you only need to view (and print) existing documents, you can get the
free Word Viewer at
http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/wd97vwr32.aspx.
If you expect to edit documents and create new ones, you'll need Word
itself. Whether you can install the old copy of Office on the new computer
depends on the type of license you have -- if Office came bundled with the
old computer, then you aren't licensed to move it to the new one, but if you
bought a retail copy then you can remove it from the old computer and load
it onto the new one.
If you need to buy a new copy of Office, the least expensive option is often
to buy Microsoft Works Suite 2004. I'm not sure how this compares with the
Student & Teacher edition, which you may be eligible for.
