I don't know how I back up my outlook file then burn it on cd for safe. Then
format my hard drive and install allthe programmes again. Now I want to open
that OutlookHotmail-00000002 backup.pst file. I can not open from cd, I can
not transfer or copy to my hard disk. It says access denied or I do not have
permission. It's a 16mb file with lot of information. Now how in the world I
can get back my data. Can some one show me the light.
Thanks

Copy from cd to hd, ensure read only flag off, then in OL File/Open/Data
File......browse to location

Judging from the name of the file, it appears to be a Hotmail cache PST. If
so, there's no need to restore it, since it's only a copy of what's on your
Hotmail account. All you need to us create the Hotmail account in Outlook
and the file will be recreated.

Dear DL, Thanks for your suggestion I tried to take away the read only flag
and either try to click OK or Apply then it gives me " an error occurred
applying attributes to the file" D:\outlookHotmail-00000002 backup.pst then
says Access is denied. Give me option of Ignore, retry & Cancel. Then I tried
without applying or Ok just removed the check mark from read only and try to
copy it goes to copy function but it says 25 sec remain and cd is just
sppining and nothing is moving .
In properties of this file it says "Office data file"
so now what to do?

Dear Brian,
Thanks for your suggession but its not a cache file. I already created
hotmail account in outlook but only new email is there nothing else. In
previous file I have a big list of my contacts & lot of saved emails. Its
about 16 mega byte file.
Any other thought?

The you deleted the remainder from Hotmail.

emails. Its about 16 mega byte file.

How did you move the information into that PST?

When you connect to a Hotmail account, your Contacts on on the Hotmail
server, not in the PST that acts as the cache.

How did you create the backup PST? Was Outlook open when you created the
backup?
