I can only send/recieve when I open up outlook in 2003 profession

I had to reinstall office 2003 professional and now I cannot seem to send
receive manually it did it at first and I may have changes a setting that I
was not aware of. The only way I can receive mail now at all is if I have
the box checked in "schecule an automatic dend/receive every" under
tools/options/mail set up/send-receive. Then it checks the mail when I open
up outlook.

Any help would be appreciated
