I can receive email but cannot send it.

R

RICE LIMITED cert (Read First)

Only read this if you are using a mail box that is not provided by your
current ISP - eg if you have changed your internet supplier but still use a
mail-box from a previous ISP.

The reason you cannot send email but only recieve is due to needing remote
mail server authentication eg, instead of pop3.yourisp.com you SHOULD use
pop3r.yourisp.com (the r stands for remote) and should be setup by the ISP
hosting your email mail box - NOT the ISP providing your connection so dont
bug them :)
The same is for smtp, use smtpr

Secure socket layer SSL authentication should be ticked for both incoming
POP3 and Outgoing SMTP servers, by default Outlook 2003/2002 will set the
incoming to the correct port but you will need to change the SMTP outgoing
port to 465
Tools -> Email Accounts -> Chanage -> More Settings

There is usually a small charge for your mail box ISP to setup this remote
mailbox feature (about $2.50 NZ)

Thank you

I also cannot send POP3 (Gmail) through my Outlook 2003. I have no problem
receiving mail. I also have the same issue with a POP3 account from my
school. However, I am able to send Yahoo POP3 mail with no problems. The
error message I get when Test Account Settings:
· Send Test email message: the specified server was found, but
there was no response from the server. Please verify that the port and SSL
information is correct. To access these settings and close this dialog, then
click on the Advanced tab.

I have tried almost everything suggested on this board to no avail. I have
Office 2003 with XP Professional SP2, and use verizon broadband. I have
spent time o nthe phone with them, checked all settings, and they say that
theie end is fine...must be something else...

Here's the error:
Sending error: ox800ccc78. Unable to send message. Please verify the e-mail
address in your account properties. Server responded 550.5.7.1. Auth Req.

I have turned off my NOrton anti-spam. Stil no sending. WHat a pain to have
to use web-based e-mail!!!!!

Any advice you may have would help! I'll try anything!!!

Thanks in advance! Catie

Yesterday I tried to send emails and I got an error message. I could receive
but not send. I tried all the usual things several times: turned off the
computer, turned off my router and cable modem, checked all my connections,
started fresh. The problem persists. Is this a problem with Outlook?

it sounds like you have to check the secure authentication of your outgoing
server.
Try it.

I have this problem as well. All is OK installed but since last night I can't

I've go the SAME problem. My error number is 554, and ISP
says it is not them. Tried the same things, and also
deleted and re-added my accounts, and added updates.
Nothing worked (yet). Any ideas?

Simple - Tools>Email Accounts>View or change existing email
accounts>Next>"double-click" the account from list>More Settings>Outgoing
Server Tab>put check in "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires
authentication">OK>Finish

And then it works...

There is a known issue between Norton and Outlook, they are working on a
solution.. but so is Christmas coming.. I uninstalled Norton and put a free
virus protector on.. AVG and it is working great.. until then I would restore
back to the day that I could send emails..

My "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" is checked.

I currently use dial-up & my problem only shows up in 3 out of the 4 dial-up
phone numbers I use. I can receive from any phone number but if I need to
send email I have only one choice of dial-up phone numbers I can use. If
that phone number is buzy, I must wait. I use Outlook 2003 and an outside
mail server provider.

I've been having this same problem, which started a couple of weeks after I
upgraded to the Beta 2 edition of Outlook 2007. I haven't changed anything
since upgrading (account information etc), but I keep getting the following
error message when trying to send:

"Task ‘Indigo – Sending’ reported error (0x800CC0F) : ‘The connection to the
server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server
administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).’"

Sometimes get this from McAfee instead:

Command sent was: MAIL FROM: <[email protected]>
Response received is: 554 4.3.2(IPT:RL) Rate limited.

Consult the online help for your email program for more information on this
error. Contact your e-mail provider if the problem persists.

It's always one or the other, with no apparant pattern to which I get. I've
been in contact with my ISP, AOL, who say the problem isn't coming from them,
and I know it's not my email hosts as I have two different ones.

I'd appreciate any assistance you could provide

I had the same problem. I tried everything and continued
to have it for weeks. I finally tried this. Under HELP in your
Outlook inbox there is "Detect and Repair". I tried this and
it fixed the problem for me. HOWEVER, you will lose all your
mail, old messages, all addresses, everything. But, if you
back it up first you might be able to save that stuff. I did
not and lost everything. But, the problem is fixed and my
Outlook is now working fine.
