I can't unset the read only box

For some reason, unknown to me, all my office files are now read only. I
reset it andwhen I go back into the file it is still read only. I haven't
made any changes to anything else. What can I do?

Are the files read-only, or are they locked for editing? If it's the latter,
then start Word or Excel and click on Help | Activate Product.
