I can't use the "fit text"button

I have added the "fit text" button at my toolbar from the list of buttons
under catagory "format". However it just appeared pale on my toolbar and I
can't click on it or do anything with it. What's should I do?

I don't know exactly what it does, but the Fit Text button is intended
for use with East Asian languages and it's apparently enabled only
when one of those languages is in use.

If you want the feature that squeezes the document so it takes one
page less than the original
(http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/FitCopy.htm), that's the Shrink
One Page command in the Tools category of the Customize dialog.
Confusingly, the same command is called ToolsShrinkToFit in the All
Commands category of the same dialog, and the tooltip in either case
says Shrink To Fit. By default it's on the toolbar in the Print
Preview, but you can add it to any toolbar or menu (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/AsgnCmdOrMacroToToolbar.htm).
