Hi fellow Entourage users....Merry Xmas to you all!

I'd really appreciate some help. I've just spent AGES adding events to my
Entourage Calendar.

I was going through Finder on my Mac and found copies of ALL
emails/contacts/event info stored there and figured I could just delete them
as I didn't need a back-up!!!

Big Mistake - now my Entourage calendar is empty. I haven't actually
Emptied the trash as yet, so can salvage all this info but I have no idea
which folder to put it back into???

I've tried dragging and dropping back into the documents folder but that
doesn't seem to make a difference to what I see in Entourage - so I'm
missing something - I'm sure its very straightforward - can anyone help!!!

Also another question!!! When composing an email and you're in the 'To' box
- how do you get the automatic address option....i.e you start typing the
first few letters of your contacts name and its automatically recognized?
I'm currently having to go to the 'check names' field and then selecting all
the names individually - a real pain - I'm sure there's an easier way
similar to Outlook.

Thanks

Since all of this data is in a database you must have deleted the cache
files for Spotlight. Do the files end in vRge08Message, vRge08Event and
vRge08Contact?

Removing these should not remove the actual messages, events, contacts. I
would not try to put these back, but let Entourage create new ones. Do not
delete these because you might need them to recover.

Let's try to determine what actually happened to your data. Are Calendar
Events the only data missing or are your messages and contacts also missing?

If it's just your Calendar Events, if you click on the custom view All
Events, what do you see?

If everything is gone, you've moved your Identity out of the Microsoft User
Data folder in your Documents folder.

It should just start typing the name in the To field, it should give you
choices. I don't even have the autofil (last icon after check names) on and
when I start typing the name shows up from my Address Book. Use Tab to
select.

Since you are new to Entourage, I suggest you look over this page:

Get Started Using Entourage

You should also have a good backup strategy. When you are new you need
backup in case you do something unintentional and loose data.

We'll be happy to discuss backup options with you.

Cheers and Welcome to Mac! I have a few tips and links posted to help new
users here:

Thank you so much for the information.

It was only the information in my calendar that went awol!

I've someone managed to get this information back - however I want to be
able to view it when I click 'Recurring Weekly' or 'Recurring Monthly' or
'All Events' - currently nothing is appearing under these options and I've
definitely saved all birthdays to recur yearly (and they all appeared in
that group before I started my meddling!!)

Best wishes

That's good. One of the most common mistakes for new users is they open
Entourage and it's blank. It's usually user error. Do not move the Microsoft
User Data folder out of Documents or Entourage will open in a new blank
Identity.

Let's test.

1) Under File in the Menu bar select export.
2) Select Items to an Entourage archive. Check Calendar Events only.
3) Under Entourage in the Menu bar select Switch Identity
4) Create New Identity and name it test calendar
5) Import your Entourage archive (.rge) file. (File --> Import select file
from archive then your Entourage archive (.rge))
6) Test.

Do you still have problems viewing 'Recurring Weekly' or 'Recurring
Monthly'?

If no, then it's your database. You need to rebuild. How to rebuild:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/database/rebuild.html>

If the problem still exists, check your data. Let me know what you find.

Calendar events, tasks and My Day are confusing. Make sure you are using the
best option to show your data.

Happy Holidays!

This just happened to me too...I do see where it moved the "Microsoft User Data" into the "Documents" file...where should I move it so it will be restored? I lost all of my contacts and emails.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

The next time you have a question, please start your own thread. This makes
it easier to follow YOUR problem without getting replies mixed up with
various questions that are often similar but have different solutions.

In the mean time, it's not clear if you deleted the cache files or what
happened to your data. Details help.

What probably happened is that, when you opened Entourage, it couldn't find
your Microsoft User Data folder or your Entourage yyyy Identities folder, it
created a new one for you. Since it's newly created, it's empty. You need to
find out what happened to the old one and put it in the place of the one
that Entourage created.
