I want to uninstall Office 97 but the setup.exe will not launch

I want to uninstall Office 97 but the setup.exe will not launch. My OS is Windows 98 SE. When I put the Office 97 CD in the drive, it will not launch. I tried running it manually by going to Run>drive:/setup but then my PC hangs and I have to crash it. I have checked the CD and it works fine on my other PC and I have also made sure it is not the DVD drive. Anyhelp on this one? Is there a way I can remove Office97 without going through setup or how would I fix this

THanks

Laurie

Yes, I have already tried the Add/Remove programs. When I do, I am prompted for the CD, I put the CD in my drive and it churns for awhile but does not find it. Any ideas?

Try uninstalling from safe mode.

Another solution would be to copy the CD to your hard drive.

You have to point the program to the CD so it knows where to find it.

I tried to uninstall from safe mode and that did not work. I did however reinstall windows (I did not reformat hard drive however) and now I get "setup.exe is not a valid win32 application" so at least I am getting further since before my PC would just lock up

Thanks

Now I get the message "setup.exe is not a valid win32 application". This isn't critical since all I want to do is remove it and I don't need the disk space but I am concerned because it will not remove!

Thanks,

I've looked around for this error, most references say it is your CD driver that is
at fault. You might try updating your driver and see if that helps.

Another solution,
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click the Display icon.
In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab.
Click Change Display Type (or click Advanced).
Note the type of adapter that is listed in the Adapter Type box. (In Microsoft
Windows 98, or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition [Me], click the Adapter tab.)
In the Adapter Type box, click Change.
Click Show All Devices.
Choose a compatible display driver.
Select a manufacturer.
Select a model.
Click OK.

NOTE: If you have a disk with a compatible display driver, click Have Disk.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
Restart Windows.
If the new display driver is not compatible, Windows either offers to restore the old
driver, or it restarts in Safe Mode. You can then return to the Control Panel and
change the video display driver again.

Still more, this is for Works but it addresses your issue

You may need the updated installer
