How to reset the sync services, or reload?

please note, NEVER delete the Entourage Calendar in iCal, Bad, bad things happen, and I can not seem to recover.

I was getting many duplicate events in Entourage and assumed they were from the Sync to iCal. So I did delete the Entourage calendar in iCal, and did not listen to the warnings. iCal then told Entourage that the meetings were deleted, and Entourage removed all my calendar, and then told exchange server, which also deleted everything. I tried to restore from a backup, and the meetings were there, until Entourage synced with Exchange and they were deleted.

Now, I can not re-establish the Sync between Entourage and iCal.

I have done the following;
Stopped MobileMe Sync
Stopped Entourage Sync
Logged off, and back on holding SHIFT to prevent start up programs
Killed Sync Services via the Activity Monitor
Delete the contents of
~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/
~/Application Support/iCal/*
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iCal/*

then

Turned on the MobilMe Sync
Turned on Entourage Sync (with Entourage overwrites iCal)

Now, in iCal there is no Entourage Calendar, then one automagicly gets created, and then a single event appears (like 1 hour later), then the Entourage Calendar in iCal disappears.

Depending on the day, I get a warning that Sync Services from Microsoft has failed, and to send the report (I do), and restart....

Is there anyway out of this ?????????

thanks in advance.

Quick update: If I change the category of an event, it seems to get pushed from Entourage to iCal.

Time will tell if this will continue, or if the whole calendar get'd deleted again. Also new appointments are now appearing in iCal.

this all started after the last crash of Entourage.

I am also seeing in the Console Log;

How to reset the sync services, or reload?

please note, NEVER delete the Entourage Calendar in iCal, Bad, bad

Well you basically told the app to delete all the Entoruage events...

The solution is to go to the Preferences in Entourage and deactivate
SyncServices for the calendar.
You can re-enable them later (and it should re-create the Entourage
calendar in iCal),
I have done the following;
Stopped MobileMe Sync

not useful.
Stopped Entourage Sync

That's what you needed.
Logged off, and back on holding SHIFT to prevent start up programs
Killed Sync Services via the Activity Monitor
Delete the contents of
~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/
~/Application Support/iCal/*
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iCal/*

That might be a little too much :)
but after all… if you really want to start clean and had nothing else in
there.

The one thing that worries me is indeed that you are also synching
through MobileMe.
You had two options: reset mobileMe calendar synching through the
MobileMe Prefpane in the system preferences, or simply wait for a couple
of syncs after you had disabled SyncServices in Entourage to make sure
iCal is "up to speed" with MobileMe, then re-enable it.

What I've seen in the past was that if you delete the Entourage calendar
in iCal, then realize your mistake and disable/re-enable SyncServices in
Entourage immediately, MobileMe doesn't necessarely get all the
information.
Basically, it gets the notifications that the events in the Entourage
calenadar are to be deleted, and if the disable/re-enable in ENtourage
is too fast between two syncs, it doens't see it. As soon as it sees the
Entourage events again, it finishes applying the command and diligently
deletes them all.

You need to wait and make sure the calendar is entirely purged, get one
more synching cycle and re-enable Entourage.

MobileMe is a powerful thing, but it can lead to serious issues like
this one (and a lot of confusion).

Corentin

thank you for the reply.

1) Yes the deletion of the Calendar did exactly what was suppose to happen, just a duhhhh on my part.

2) The information on the MobileMe is interesting and will see what I can do.

The issue right now is that I only have a part of the Entourage Calendar to iCal, and not understanding why only some are going.

I will try stopping the MobileMe Sync for a day or two.

I updated some events in Entourage by changing the Categories.

Now ALL events are removed from the iCal Entourage Calendar.

MobileMe Sync is turned off.
