Identify a picture's filename

I have placed many pictures with Insert, Picture, From File. Now I just want
to know the filenames of individual pictures. Is it possible? Thanks

Hi dindigul,

Unless you've inserted the picture as a linked object, there's no way to retrieve the filename.

If you've inserted the picture as a linked object, you can retrieve the filename by making sure the picture is formatted as 'in line
with text', then selecting it and pressing Shift-F9. This will reveal the field coding, which includes the picture's path and
filename. Pressing Alt-F9 will do the same for all linked in-line pictures in the document.

Cheers

You can 'sort of' get to the names of the original pictures, even if not inserted as links. When you insert a picture into Word it
stores the name (but not the file type or location) in the document as a 'title' property for the picture.

If you use File=>Web Page Preview and then view source and search the source for
v:imagedata src
you should see the titles on the o:title=
line for the results of each picture (imagedata)

As it's 'in there somewhere' I would guess that it's available via a macro as well, and perhaps one of the other folks here has one
that can pull that out as a captioned pictures list.

Is that one of the things you can find with the Microsoft Script Editor?

Hi Suzanne,

Yes, in Word 2000, 2002 or 2003. In Word 2007 the Script Editor is still provided but MS intentionally stripped out the internal
linkage to using it from within Word, but the information is there in View Source in IE.
