Identity takes up major space even with few messages

My Main Identity folder in the HD > Documents > Microsoft User Data >
Identities path takes up about 192 MB after a few months of use, and
cannot be reduced even when I throw away virtually all the messages.
This is a significant amount of space on a partition of 650MB (to back
up on CD) -- second only to the System Folder itself. Can anyone
suggest how I can reduce the size of the Identities folder to reflect
the number of files being stored? This must be a universal problem.

Thanks,

Dale

Hello Dale,

I am having the same problem as you are and so I posted my similar
question today (on July 21). My question is called: Permanently
removing messages from the computer". I hope we can find both some
answers to these problems. Could anyone please suggest a solution?

Thank you in advance

Here is the answer:

(Clipped from an Apple Computer discussion list):

"Hold down the Option key when starting up OE - you'll be given an
opportunity to either "compact" or do a "complex rebuild" of OE's databases.
This not only gets rid of the space once occupied by now-deleted messages,
it also generates new database files - which are now minus all record of the
deleted messages."

-Quote from Don Archibald.

Thanks Don for this!
