IE won't allow .save

I'm using the custom document properties in a document and
need to save them using vba. The documents are accessed
through our intranet which opens in IE6.0 The problem is
when I populate the custom properties and try to save the
document I get an error 4605 save method not available.

Anyway around this using vba? Can you force IE to open
Word instead of inside IE?
