Images In Word Documents

I have about 10 icon size images that will be repeated numerous times
in my doc.
I don't want to link the images, I want to import them. I want only 1
file.
If one icon image should change all of them should be updated
accordingly (That will happen only in the early stage of the doc
creation.).

What should I do?

Bite the bullet and link them. You can't have it both ways.

Insert the icon once, bookmark it, and use a REF field (Insert | Reference |
Cross-reference to Bookmark) to repeat it.
