I have a Word user who is using a MAC and wants to import an image as a
layout reference that will be locked on the template but won't print. Any
ideas?

Image formats are different on the Mac, but I don't think Win or MacWord
offers the ability to lock an image like that, or control what other people
do with it. Maybe the new controls in WinWord 2003 do?

One can prevent an image from printing by unchecking "drawing objects" in
the Print tab of Word | Preferences (Tools | Options on a Windows computer).
Perhaps that's all the user is asking for?

You can ask on Mac-specific newsgroups if you want. See here for a gateway
to them:
