Import Creates Text Boxes

Michael

I have a Word 2003 document that I import into Publisher 2003. The document
imports and creates text boxes for each page that is 9.92 by 7.579. I then
change the page setup to booklet 8 x 5.5 but the text boxes stay the same
size. I tried using Master pages to change - no luck. The only way I could
find was to manually edit every text box to 7.25 x 4.5. With over 200
pages, that is not practical. I tried setting the default autoshape. I
tried setting a master page layout with text boxes set to the right size
before import and it did not help.

Any help would be appreaciated.

Michael had it occurred to you, you need to setup Publisher in the format
you need BEFORE you import the Word doco.

Of course Publisher will not change the Text Frames when you change the page
layout. Can you imagine the screams you would get from users if it did.
Secondly Publisher is not dynamic.

I tried that first. When I go to import the fiel, Publisher opens a new
file, not importing into the existing one. I tried doing a copy an paste
and get an error that the clipboard is too big and can not be pasted. When
I try with small paste, it puts it into new text boxes that have no
relatinoship to the existing ones. What am I doing wrong? I also checked
the box to Apply to new shape once the text box was set.

Michael, Setup your booklet,Create two text boxes on the first two pages in Publisher
and link them, when you copy and paste the text Publisher will then create pages
automatically and flow the text.

One slow step. I have the document in a text box that has an overflow
indicator. I added another page, duplicating the text box but it does not
flow automatically to the new text box. I have to manually connect the text
boxes. Is there a way to connect text boxes from a point going forward on
all pages?

Michael have you heard of a thing called a HELP file.

I suggest you use it as you expect everybody else to do your work for you.

You are a lazy person.

Appears that my problem was thinking that I could import a word document
into a booklet format. If I did it with a custom page, you can insert and
it then asks you to autoflow, etc. Then I get multiple pages with connected
text boxes. Only problem is the text boxes changed to a size of their
choosing. I will just work with it until it works. Seems booklet does not
work.

Have you tried adjusting the Layout Guides?

Yes - that is what I had to do. You can not improt into a booklet!
I started with the correct page size, set the layout guides, created a text
box and then inserted the word doc into the text box. It then flowed,
created the new boxes, etc.
