Import from Excel to Outlook Problem

When importing from Excel to Outlook, all of my periods turn into
question marks (e.g. "Mr." turns into "Mr?"). If I try to export and
fix, of course Excel (unlike words) thinks when I enter "?" I mean
wildcard any character.

Any help appreciated.
