Import table

I had a previous post that asked the question about doing
a link to an outside table (Excell). I have tables with
work order "numbers" (that are text) that are generated
by an outside database. When I try to import these into
Access it considers these numbers. I need them as text!
Ken Snell had mentioned (among other things) about doing
code to tell the import thingamajig to consider numbers
as text. How might a person who is bad at coding and
expression building but OK with SQL's do such a trick?
Some Work Order Numbers have text in them, so this'd be a
big help.

If you have a single quote in the cell preceding the (work
order number) it will be treated a text. Let me know if
that works!

that would involve doing it on the main sql database
(10,000 records)which would mess up the whole company.
Any of the simple work-a-rounds involves more work than
whatit's worth.
