Importing Exchange .pst from Windows to Mac Outlook w/out Exchange

B

Ben Robertson

I'm the Mac Admin for an agency, and sometimes, as much as I hate it,
we've had to let people go. I have a friend just recently laid off, who
was working on the PC, using our Exchange. I backed up his Exchange
data to pst files.

Now, he needs to be able to view those messages / contacts, but
without the active connection to the Exchange server. I can't create a
profile without having the Exchange connection (which I understand)
but isnt' there a way to just view the pst?

I believe on the Windows side, you can create a profile without having
to connect to the exchange server. Then, import a personal folder (the
pst), and voila~ there's the data.

I believe I can export contacts, and then import to Entourage, but's a
bit messy. Can the new Entourage be setup to view a pst without
needing to connect to an Exchange server? Can the Outlook Client for
Macintosh be setup to bypass the Exchange connection and be made to
simply read the mail data that's now located on the hard drive?

big headaches. any help much appreciated.!

Hi Ben!

Simply put, the .pst file format is proprietary to Microsoft Outlook.
Outlook is the only application that can open it and make sense of it.

like the guy above me said, pst is only Outlook. No other
program can read it. You can try downloading the Outlook
for Mac program, it's for OS 9 so you'll have to run it in
Classic. You should be able to read the pst file using
this app. It's a free download from microsoft mactopia.

good luck.
