Importing mail

Cathy

I am changing laptops and would like to somehow import my
mail, (Sent, Deleted, etc) into the new laptop...I have
searched and cannot find out how to do this. All I find
answers on importing from outlook express into outlook.
Does anyone have the answers?

From the old laptop, in Outlook, File...export and import.
Export the data to a .pst file. Copy this file to the new
laptop then from the new Outlook, file...export and
import. Import the .pst file.

Also, make sure during the EXPORT of the .pst file that
you have the Sub-folders box checked (included).
Depending on the amount of email you have to transfer,
the file could be many MB in size.

Do NOT export and import. Simply copy the .pst file and paste it where you
want on the laptop. Use File->Open to access the pst file.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the SWEN virus, all mail sent to my personal account will be deleted
without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Cathy asked:

Actually, it's much better to simply copy the .PST file to the new laptop
and open it in Outlook there using File | Open. Then the user can tell
Outlook to use that file as the default. The import/export process can be
unreliable, and by re-using the original file, most custom settings are
retained, as well as the original folder/subfolder structure.

Don't listen to those who tell you to export/import. If you're using
Outlook (not Outlook Express; if you're using Outlook Express, ask your
question in an Outlook Express newsgroup), copy the Personal Folders (PST)
file to the new laptop, open it in Outlook on that machine and you're done.

Damn! Why do people seem to be stuck on this? The Outlook data is ALREADY
IN A PST! Why export it to one again? What a waste.
