importing old files

Dan

I had 2000 pro. I tried to import my old emails into outlook 2003. I could
not because it said it was too large at 2 gig. The proposed solution is to
delete a portion of the 2 gig file so it becomes smaller. But I can't import
it to make it smaller. I need the old emails, they are extremely important.
What do I do? Someone please help me.

1. Never import native Outlook files.
2. Open Outlook 2003 and create a new unicode .pst file (2003 type).
3. Use File->Open->Outlook Data File to open the old file.

If this does not work, then use the crop tool for the old .pst file and then
open it in Outlook 2003 and drag/drop the contents into the newer unicode
format.pst file.

What is a Unicode file? I tried number 2 with the info I understood (other
than unicode) same result.

What crop tool? Where do I find it?
