Importing Predessors from XLS or Access

A

Andy

I have listing of data in excel that identifies task IDs and Predessor IDs
(one column each). The same task may have multiple predessors, and this is
reflected as different data records. I cannot figure out how to import this
data into project to create a Predessor diagram.

Save a project as a spreadsheet and choose the Project Template option in
the save as wizard. That will show you what sort of information can be
imported. You now have two options: 1 to massage your Excel data into the
same format or use Excel VBA to do the same then open and merge the
spreadsheet, or 2 use Project VBA to import your data.

Just as a note, you might want to use Unique ID Predecessors and Successors
rather than the plain old ones. And use Task Unique ID as your merge key.
Predecessors are all entered in the same field, separated by commas (no
spaces needed) so you should contatenate all of the predecessors into a
single field before importing.
