Indicating Resources on Gantt Chart

Is there a way to assign resource name (or group) to activities without
having it take part in the calculation of durations?

I just need to be able to show the resources for the activities but whenever
they are assigned the activities are affected when updating the schedule.

Dale,
It sounds like you want your tasks to be Fixed Duration type and not
effort driven. If you are setting up a new project, go to
Tools/Options/Schedule tab and set the Default task type to Fixed
Duration. Also uncheck the "new tasks are effort driven" option. If you
already have a schedule, select all tasks and then in the Task
Information window, set the Task Type as Fixed Duration and uncheck the
"effort driven" option next to it.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,

If you wish to add names so they appear in the Gantt Chart but do not affect
work or duration calculations, you could add the Contact field or a text
field to the table and enter the name or group there.

To display the selected field in the Gantt chart, choose Format > Bar
Styles, select the bar for "Task" click on the Text tab at the bottom of the
Bar Styles dialog box and select the field used to display on the left,
right, top, bottom, or inside. Repeat as necessary for Critical tasks.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
