Inserting video avi files in Powerpoint.

When I insert a video avi file into Powerpoint it will not run when clicked
on. The screen will go black. If it's a video stream file it will work but
the quality is poor. I have Pinnacle Studio 8 on my pc. Would this be the
problem?
