Inside message filter ??

A new irritation has started happening in the last few days ..

On clicking to send an e-mail .. a single or double error sound occurs ..
Outlook ( Office XP on Windows 2000 Pro ) freezes and I have to click on
Show Desktop to find and click away this error message :

" It is illegal to call out while inside a message filter " .. before
things return to normal.

This has never happened before .. anyone any explanation please ? :))
