Install Office on up to three PCs with same product key?

My sister-in-law, who is a teacher, purchased Office STE 2003. The box says
she can install it on up to three PCs. Since there is only one product key
on the box, how are the 2nd and 3rd installs handled to differentiate the
PCs, with regard to Office updates? Does she give each install iteration a
different user name?

uninstall of Works on the 2nd PC will go smoothly, and wondered if I may need
to reinstall Office if I run into any Word or Office folder or registry
conflicts. From what you're saying, it sounds like I don't have to worry
about whether I need to reinstall Office as I work through any potential
issues, because the actual registration, and hence "count off" of available
installs, can be done after I'm satisfied that everything is OK with the
install? (i.e. reinstalls due to install issues don't count against the
total of 3)

It is best to remove works first as you may wind up with conflicting files
due to word.
