Install template and change the thumbnail picture of a template

Joh:Reh

I've been around the web trying to find a way to install a template in
PowerPoint 2007 - ie adding it to the Installed template folder. I've seen
the 1033 folder being mentioned - but no one seem to have gotten it to work.
but most of the posts I've found about it is from 2007 and earlier. Is this a
dead path and should I just give up?

Second question is there a way to change the thumbnail picture of a template
when choosing Open -> New Presentation in PowerPoint 2007?

We're installing a new a corporate presentation template and I don't like
the default thumbnail picture with an "x" on that shows up under "Recent used
templates". The "x" makes it look like the file is broken... I want my
template to have a nice thumbnail picture with a preview just like templates
that are pre-installed from Microsoft. Is there a way or should I give up
looking?

The thumbnail is usually the very first slide - I believe that it is
generated by powerpoint when the file is saved.

It looks like ppt 2007 has a better way of generating the thumbnail (using a
smooth jpg instead of perhaps a bitty gif file) when saving the file. So I
guess the only way of updating the thumbnail is to re-save it from ppt 2007

As to the location - start looking around

xp
c:\documents and settings\username\application data\microsoft\templates\ in
here !

vista
c:\users\username\probably the same as above.......
