installed font does not show up in any programs

I have successfully installed a new hebrew font in Windows XP (control
panel/fonts/install a new font). I have verified that it is in the
\windows\fonts folder. However, if I open word or ms publisher, or
powerpoint, or non-microsoft programs, this font does not appear in the drop
down list. Any suggestions?
