After installing Office 2003 Professional Efition (home use program) old
files can't be opened. Error message says virus checker detected a problem.
In word any new file created/saved can't be located when attempting to open
it.

Hi, sadoldbiker,

Do you mean Word files? What version of Word were they created in? Do you
have an updated virus checker on your system? Is the error you're getting
from Office or from your virus checker? Are there macros in those files, or
could you possibly have a macro virus? Did you do an upgrade from a
previous version of Office, or was this a clean installation?

When you say any file can't be located, are you getting an error message?
Again, are you talking just about Word or all other Office programs? If
it's just Word, would you try the other programs to see if they are
experiencing the same thing?

Thanks Susan for the response. In answer to the questions:
Both Word and Excel files are unavailable, both all old files from Office
2000 and any new files created.

In Word message says the file is not available or can't be located. In
Excel, error message says 'File cannot be opened because your virus scanner
has detected a problem with the file'. There are no macros in the files, very
basic word documents and spreadsheets. The word files can be viewed in note
pad.

I have McAfee Virus checker installed and did have problems when installing
it due to previous Norton Anti virus software.

I have also completed a scan and no file problems were identified.

Hope you can help further.

Thanks.

Could you try to disable all Norton and McAfee tools that might be running,
and try again?
