Installing Office 2007 Home & Student Edition

P

Phil

I would like to install Office 2007 Student Edition on my desktop running
XP SP3. Already installed is Word 2002 and Microsoft Works Suite 2004. Do I
have to delete both before installing Office 2007? Will all my Word 2002
and Works 2004 documents be available after the install?

Also running Outlook Express, I have heard that I will lose the Spell Check
function once I install Office 2007.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

You can install Office 2007 side-by-side with Word 2002 and Works Suite;
just choose *not* to do an "upgrade" install. If you keep Word 2002, I
believe OE will still use its proofing tools. You will not lose any
documents or access to them. If you do choose to do an upgrade install, Word
2002 will be replaced but not Works Suite (except for Word); you probably
will lose the proofing tools but might regain them if you install the Works
word processor (not sure of that--ask in the Works newsgroup).

Firstly: do you use Outlook? I ask because Outlook is not included with
Office 2007 H&S edition.

Note that users' files are not removed when you uninstall Office. You may
find that if you have any legacy add-ins in Word 2002, they may not work or
may cause problems in Office 2007. So check in Templates and Add-ins in Word
2002 to see what is installed and it is probably best to remove them before
uninstall W2002 and installing Office 2007.

If you DON'T use Outlook, I suggest that you uninstall Word 2002 (presumably
part of the Works Suite?).

Then go ahead and install Office 2007.

To get your spell checking back into OE, run Office (or Word) 2002 setup and
choose CUSTOM install. Deselect all components except the spelling tools.
That will retain the spelling in OE and not affect Office 2007.

Terry & Suzanne,

Thank you both for the responses to my post. Will be installing
Office 2007 this week. Will advise.

Thanks again.

Terry & Suzanne,

Installed Office 2007 on my XP PC. Also installed all Office
updates found at Microsoft Update.
Only problem I had was that Office SP1 update failed to install. Went
back and manually downloaded the SP1 update and tried to install it. This
time I received a message saying that SP1 was already installed. Looks
good at this point.

Once again "Thanks" for your help.
