installing office xp over office 2003

G

Great Gilbert

I recently got a new laptop, and I tried to upgrade the trial version of
Office 2003 to Office XP. However, neither version of Outlook now works.

When I try to open Outlook XP, I get an error message reading, "Cannot start
Microsoft Outlook. Unable to display the selected folder or item. Could not
open the item. Try again later."

Any suggestions?

Going from Office 2003 to Office XP is a downgrade, not an
upgrade. What you should have done was uninstall the Office 2003
trial, and then install your full version of Office XP. At this
point, I suggest that you uninstall Office XP, uninstall Office
2003 trial, and install Office XP.

I have the same problem. I 1st uninstalled the Office 2003 trial version
with Add/Remove Programs. I then installed XP Pro. Experienced same Outlook
error message as you. I then uninstalled XP Pro and reinstalled it again.
No joy. Same problem.
