Installing Publisher 2K on machine with Office XP

The Office XP suite I have on my new computer does not
have Publisher with it but I have my original Office 2K
Pro two disk set and would like to install Publisher 2K
so that I have a complete Office setup. I have done this
and it seems to run fine. Now I went to see if the
office update scan needed to update my office
XP/publisher 2K files and it does. Is this safe to
update if I have a mixed office setup like this?

Yes, the installer will recognize what programs are at what version.

Will I did now see support article #290576 which said to
install the older Publisher 2K first, then Office XP Pro
after to avoid problems. Unhapply, the machine I
purchased had Office XP Pro already installed on it. I
did the Publisher 2K install from CD#2, which went fine
but now I really want to update my Office setup. I did
update Office XP pro prior to installing Publisher 2K
(went fine) but now Publisher 2K needs the SP-3 updates
added and I am concerned on what that may do if I let the
automatic office updater (from MS website) do the update.

Am I just be a too scared?? Has anybody done this and
what problems did they have/solutions/etc.

HELP!!
