Intermittent Error Number: 0x800ccc0e

DWilson

I'm using Outlook 2000 on a laptop running Windows 2000
professional.

I use Outlook to check mail on five different POP3 boxes
at the same domain. Periodically, without any pattern
that I can figure out, I'll suddenly start getting the
error "Unable to connect to the server. (Account: 'Account
Name', POP3 Server: 'mail.mailservername.com', Error
Number: 0x800ccc0e)." Sometimes it's on just one box,
sometimes on multiple boxes, rarely on all five.

Sometimes, I restart Outlook and everything's magically
fixed. Sometimes I need to restart my laptop. Sometimes,
the problem persists for a day or so, then suddenly I can
download mail again.

When Outlook is unable to connect, I can access my mail
through my host's web interface, and I can telnet to my
mailbox and see that there's mail *there*. Outlook just
refuses to connect.

In the past month, my host has moved me to two different
servers (I'm on my third), as well as tweaking things on
their end (and of, course, no one can tell me what those
tweaks are), but the problem is still occurring.

Now, they're telling me that they've exhausted all their
options, it's GOT to be an Outlook issue, and I should
take it up with Microsoft.

Can anyone explain what's going on, what the solution
might be, things I need to be asking my host to prevent
the problem from occuring, or a reliable workaround to
ensure that I can DL mail to Outlook when I need to?

Thanks in advance,
DWilson

Dear D Wilso

Unfortunately, I'm not providing an answer to your problem. However, I am letting you know that we have also been suffering this problem on all our office machines for some weeks now. I believe it started after installing an Office Security Update

I have also posted a message about this and await a reply. In the meantime, I've must re-boot my PC to receive those pesky e-mails
