How can I import jpeg files into Word 2008 without having a blue background?

When I insert a jpeg file into a word document the background for the graphic is blue. Transparent (or white) would be nice. The Word file that's being edited was created on a Windows system originally using a 2004(?) version. I am using a MacBook Pro with MS Office 2008.

The graphics are output from illustrator as jpeg files. If they are exported/imported as TIFF files they display as expected.

If I save the Word file as a 2004 (doc) document the background is black.

I suspect they are being output as 32-bit or 48-bit colour.

Output them as RGB (24-bit) and the problem should go away.

Thanks, that's it! I had saved the JPEG as CYMK. When it was re-exported as RGB it went into the Word document just fine.

Well, *I* thank YOU. I hadn't gotten around to finding out what happened
when you put CMYK jpegs into Word 2008. Now I know.

Microsoft has been mumbling about fixing this for a few years. I believe it
works on the PC. Maybe I need to give them another whack :)

Cheers
