David,
When did you visit Gitmo? What respected scientists showed you the data
that we are indoctrinated by the media, since all networks except Fox
report how badly things are going? What law prevents us from holding
military combatants against their will? Have YOU served in the military
or received a degree in Military Law? Why would one hold a civil trial
for combat crimes? Among the Top Five abusers of human rights? What
dream did you pull that "fact" from?
How many US network news broadcasts do you watch a week? CBS? NBC? ABC?
CNN? MSNBC, or is that MSDEM? I listen to most of them at least once a
week, I can guarantee you they are not brow beating any of us in a
campaign of fear.
Troops getting wiped out? Yes, there has been far too many young men and
women killed trying to improve life for the Iraqis and Afghanis (one is
far too many), but I haven't heard any reports about coalition troops
being wiped out. Maybe the 94 percent of Iraqis who like us being there
do not matter to you - just as the six percent who terrorized the
country for a generation were actually kind hearted people who won't be
able to help others - to an early death after being tortured.
Yes, the US did attack Afghanistan and took several prisoners. We love
peace and liberty but understand that a particular tree must be
replenished from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants alike.
David, sometimes you remind me of this guy: Memorial Day weekend was
coming up, and the nursery school teacher took the opportunity to tell
her class about patriotism. "We live in a great country," she said. "One
of the things we should be happy about is that, in this country, we are
all free." One little boy came walking up to her from the back of the
room. He stood with his hands on his hips and said, "I'm not free. I'm
four." I'm free, but only because people have fought, and far too often,
given their life to keep me that way. If the rest of the world wants to
live under fear or even sit back with their fingers crossed hoping they
will not be attacked, that's their right. Maybe Australians are willing
to buy tickets for terrorists who want to harm their citizens, this US
citizen isn't going to.
I would like to continue the debate, and you can have the last word in
the forum. But please CC me so we can do it via e-mail, or just call -
you have my number.
Mike
