Keyboard stuck in alt mode!

help! somehow my keyboard (notebook PC - Thinkpad) is stuck in alternate
mode -- for instance when I type a U, it types a 4, an I becomes a 5. How do
I fix this? I'm kind of a new user on a notebook PC. thanks!

Go to the notebook's web site and look around for support documents.

posting my own problem resolution -- finally found a support document online
and the problem was that the numeric lock function was on (by accident), so
the solution was to disable it by pressing and holding down the shift key and
pressing the NUMLK key.
