Labels outside the base for a column chart

Currently I have a chart with 10 columns of data. When I turn the data labels
on, the data is located in the column. I would like the data to be outside
the base. Currently my choices are inside end, inside base, or centre.

What do you mean by "outside base"? When you position the labels using
"inside base," they're just above the X-axis (assuming the X-axis is at the
bottom of the chart). Do you want them to be below the axis, then? If
they're below the axis, they'll run into the category labels...

I guess I can see how you might want the labels all lined up in the same
place in relation to the X-axis, though -- say the X-axis crosses at 0 in
the middle of the graph and you have both positive and negative data points.
If you use "inside base" then, the negative data labels will be just below
the X-axis, and the positive data labels will be just above the X-axis. In
this case, you'd have to move them manually.

I think the option you might need is 'outside end' so that the labels sit
above the columns. To do this, you need to make sure the chart type is a
simple column, and not stacked at all. Then you will have Outside End as an
option.

Does this help at all? If you need to know how to put totals outside a
stacked column let me know.
