Leveling of overlapped tasks

How do I make MPP adjust the Units, when it levels, so it allows
parallel tasks?

I have two tasks with some shared resources. Both tasks are fixed
duration. One task is a week long and the other is recurring daily
meetings during that same week.

However, when I Level the plan, MPP shifts the tasks so they are in
sequence, rather than it tries to adjust the work hours to allow both
tasks at the same time.

Is there a way to do that?

Hi mdxix,

Resource leveling will *never* adjust resource assignment units. That is up
to *you*, as the manager of the plan, to decide how to best allocate the
resource's time.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

As Julie says, it won't ever adjust units for you. But try this as an
experiment. Initially you have two tasks. Task X lasting 1 week, and Task
Meeting, 1 hour per day recurring daily for the same week. Leave the tasks
fixed units or fixed work - no need to make them fixed duration. Task X
starts Mon 8am and finishes Fri at 5pm. Meeting is one hour per day, I used
1pm to 2pm for my example. Assign resource Fred to both @ 100%. Level on
hour by hour basis, "can adjust assignments" and "can split remaining work"
both turned on. Task X will now show an interruption for 1 hour each day -
that makes sense because Fred physically can't be working on that task AND
be in the meeting at the same time, can he? - and its finish will push out
to Mon at 2pm, making up on Monday for the five hours lost to meetings
during the previous week.
