License and Intall Question

Hiro

Here's the situation:

Bought one computer with Office XP installed
Later upgraded and installed Office 2003

Just bought second computer.

Tried to install my copy of Office 2003 on it but of course it won't activate.

So can I just roll back my first computer to Office XP - (Uninstall 2003 and
then reinstall XP?). Then install my copy of Office 2003 on my new computer?
Will this work? Does it somehow register that I took it off my old computer
so it'll activate on the new one?

Hi Hiro,

If you're using OEM copies of MS Office the
activation is linked to the first machine that
it's used on and are generally not transferable.

Retail copies allow a 2nd machine activation.
You may want to use the telephone activation
method to explain the situation to the activation
technician.

Thanks that helps. The XP install was OEM so I should be fine there since I
just want to go back to it, not transfer it to another machine.

The 2003 version I got from our Home Use program at work. Will that
function like the retail version? I notice the EULA says you can transfer to
another machine but of course has no instructions for how to do so. So,
again I"m just assuming I uninstall on one machine and reinstall on the
other. Will this work?

Hi Hiro,

Generally the Home Use volume license copies
can be moved but you may want to check with
your administrator at work to see what the
license agreement the company has setup is.
